Everything old is new again

I noticed this bookcase going unused and looking in need of some TLC in Joey's room a little while ago.

Do you like how I couldn't be bothered to dust it before taking a photo?

Having just tackled cornices for the kitchen windows, I felt eminently qualified to refinish this baby.

What I didn't know about the bookcase is that Joe's Dad built it sometime in the early '80s to hold encyclopedias, then Joe added shelves sometime in the early '90s to fit CDs. Remember CDs?  I don't even remember the last time I bought one!

I couldn't take out the original shelves, but I did remove the ones that Joe installed.

All it needed from there was some sanding and a couple of coats of paint, and voila...

I was going to cover the backboard with some cute wallpaper or fabric, but Joe's Dad built this bookcase very well, which means the back wouldn't budge, so I just used the same black paint.

I had so much fun with his project.  Our wine rack is next...
